  • Marymount Convent School Celebrates 60th Anniversary

The Good Shepherd Sisters’ Annals recorded that on 16 January 1958 Marymount Convent School (MCS) was blessed after it was officially opened in 1957. Sixty years have gone by and MCS went through two big shifts and face lifts. Starting out as a full school with a Chinese Primary Section which phased out when Singapore ceased the Chinese Medium Schools in the 1980s, its Secondary Section also phased out in 1995 when it became necessary for the school to undergo re- building and be equipped for 21st century education. Spending 2 years at a holding school in Lorong 8 Toa Payoh, MCS returned to its Marymount Road premises in June 1999. Incidentally 15 years later, the Good Shepherd Sisters relocated with the kindergarten and social services to the school’s holding site after the land and buildings at Thomson Road was compulsorily acquired by the Government. The then Minister of Education, Mr Teo Chee Hean officiated the opening of the new school building on Foundress Day, 24 April 2001.
