Youth-PREP Centre Anniversary
March 30, 2012 @ 8:00 am - March 31, 2012 @ 5:00 pm
On March 31st, 2012, the Youth-PREP Centre organised the Earth Hour Acoustic Night. As it also falls on the month of YPC’s anniversary, we decided to celebrate a 2-in-1 event, our anniversary and the Earth Hour. The event started off at 6pm with a welcome address followed by dinner. Pictures and videos of the journey of YPC for the past year were shown. Then the staff and volunteers shared their experiences and happy memories in the Centre. Many shared that through the people and programmes at the Centre, their lives have changed tremendously.
Kaziemah said that YPC is like ‘Heaven on Earth’ where everybody is accepted for who they are and respected for their differences. We then had June Rubis from Land Empowerment Animals People (LEAP) sharing on “I Hate Earth Hour.” She shared taht the reason for the title of her talk is because we should not only switch off our lights for one hour and not care for the Earth the rest of the days in the year. She stressed that everybody should not be celebrating Earth Hour but should be celebrating Earth every day instead. We then passed out candles and counted down to Earth Hour at 8.30pm.
Among the performances for the night were choir performances by the vocal class and the girls of Asrama St. James Tenghilan, theatre by the English class, a performance by Carrey and Elton our vocal teachers and a performance by Shooting Day. The event ended at 9.30pm. All proceeds from the sale of the candles and drinks were donated to the needy. More than 100 young people attended the event.
