Maundy Thursday 2024 at Marymount Convent School

March 28 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s
feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly,
I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who
sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” (John 13:2-17)

A humbling experience…
Students taking Catholic Values Education, staff and volunteer catechists participated in the washing of feet event, enacting Jesus’ humility that happened on the very first Maundy Thursday evening, when Jesus instituted the Eucharist (the very first Mass) and humbled himself as a servant, knelt down to wash the feet of his disciples, including the one who was to betray him.

While the P1 to P3 pupils learnt the significance of the event by watching 2 videos and reflecting on the value of humility and the practice of hospitality through small group sharing,

the P4 to P6 pupils had a short prayer session and took part in the actual act of washing one another feet. This was done at the parade ground with teachers, school leaders and catechists starting to wash the feet of students.

This event teaches us Jesus’ humility and servanthood in forgiving sinners. Just like Jesus, we are called to serve the people around us in humility, embrace forgiveness and love as Jesus did.
