Earth Hour

March 30, 2019 @ 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Reflection for Earth Hour Day (Last Saturday of March)

The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness, the world and all its peoples.
It is he who set it on the seas; on the waters he made it firm. (Psalm 24:1)

As a fish in water is not aware that it is in the sea or the great ocean, so we, on land, too, often do not think that we are on the earth. This earth to which we are a part of belongs to God, just as we are. And it has so much beauty and magnificence to be discovered and appreciated. How often have you/we looked up into the sky and wonder at its expanse, its greatness, the stars and the mysteries beyond or look out to the fields and see the landscapes with the variety of trees, flowers and beauty?
God made our wonderful earth to produce all that we need to live our lives …. The water, the land, the trees, animals and all the earth produce are for our food and our use. Because the earth embraces our needs and cares for us, we call it our Mother Earth. We thank God for His providence, for giving us Mother Earth.
Unfortunately, all is not well with our earth. And we need to give some urgent attention to it and do our part to restore her health again.
People, we included, have been irresponsible, greedy and careless towards Mother Earth. We use too much, consume too much and waste too much. All over the world the climate is affected. While we get hotter here, other places experience freezing temperatures, still others drought. Rivers and bodies of water in many places are drying up from lack of rain while low-lying countries are being swallowed up by flood waters from melting ice and glaciers. With these conditions crops will either not grow or be destroyed. If we don’t do anything about it, we will have to face water shortage and food shortage which some countries are already suffering from.
We are reminded time and again to do something to restore the balance of our Mother Earth. We have World Water Day (22 March which just passed) Earth Hour (Last Saturday of March) and Earth Day (22 April) World Environment Day (5th June)
This Saturday – on 30 March 2019 is Earth Hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. During this hour we can join people around the world who are concerned about our world to cut off the use of energy – electricity
We are called to “Reduce, Reuse, Change the Way We Live”
It is important that we reduce energy and water consumption to save planet Earth.
We can become more responsible so that our earth become better and we can continue to enjoy the blessings of our Earth. This Saturday, do remind all our family members to stop the use of electronic devises; to switch off everything that uses electricity for just one hour from 8.30 to 9.30pm. You can have a candle-lit dinner, give your attention to each other and share ideas of how you can reduce, reuse and change your way of living.
There is no limit to your contribution however small towards the protection of the earth. Let us do our part for Mother Earth this upcoming EARTH HOUR. We will be connected to a world of Joy. Commit to do something no matter how small for Mother earth everyday. Thank you and God bless you.
