All I knew about Earth Hour was just switching off the electricity in the house and stay at home with my family, chilling in the dark in silence. As I grew older I understood more and I need to help save the Earth which is in a critical condition mostly caused by humans.

On March 19th, I became a volunteer for the Earth Hour Kota Kinabalu 2016 at Segama Waterfront organised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall. Together with other volunteers, we helped out in arranging the candles that were put into recycled bottles with some sand in them. When the lights were switched off we lit the candles.

The skies were clear and stunning as the stars were shining brightly. I also learned about light pollution, mostly through the effects of industrial civilisation. It will have serious consequences towards our health. This was mentioned during the star gazing session during the event. We cannot work alone to make this event a success as we need more support and ideas from communities to spread awareness about the environmental issues we face.

This will be one of the night that I will always remember in my life. †
