The First Anniversary of Good Shepherd Oasis: A Dual Celebration of Joy & Gratitude
The First Anniversary of Good Shepherd Oasis : A Dual Celebration of Joy & Gratitude
by Sr. Elizabeth Lim
On Saturday June 13, 2015 a MINT TEA GATHERING was held on the 4th Floor, Block C of Good Shepherd Place, 9 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh.
The occasion? A dual, First Anniversary Celebration of JOY and GRATITUDE
· The Good Shepherd Oasis (in its new location!) and
· The reunification of Our Lady of Charity and the Good Shepherd Sisters
It was indeed a beautiful and inspiring Eucharistic celebration where by the prompting of God’s Spirit of Love, three priests concelebrated: A Diocesan Priest Fr Valerian Chong, A Redemptorist Priest Jacob Ong and a Franciscan, Friar John Wong. The “ecumenical” congregation comprised former retreatants, retreat directors and counsellors from all walks of life, from various faith traditions, benefactors and believers in the Good Shepherd Mission of Reconciliation and our own dear Sisters of the Good Shepherd and lay Mission Partners. It could easily number slightly over one hundred children of God in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Place.
The main celebrant Fr Jacob was at ease with the choir streaming along with soothing and calming Taize hymns for the whole Mass.
The homilist Fr Valerian brought out the nature of Retreat work as he expounded and clearly mapped out our personal journey with that of the Gospel text: Mark 4: 26-34. Providentially the Liturgical readings seem to further help us understand the mission of the Good Shepherd Oasis.
At the conclusion of the Eucharist celebration, the Chairperson of the Good Shepherd Oasis Management Committee, Ms Selina Gan gave her welcome address to all present and thanked our Province Leadership Team for the encouragement and support given to this mission. This was followed by an inspirational meditation sung by our aspirant, Ms Jacinta Teo and accompanied on the piano by Mrs Audrey Ruyters: THE KING OF LOVE MY SHEPHERD IS by Ch Gounod, indeed expresses the work of what GSO strives to be and do and this was fleshed out in the powerpoint presentation.
A tour of the Oasis was given in small groups while others were in the Hall having their refreshments, sponsored by a member of GSO Management Committee. Guests meet up with members of the Management, former and would be retreatants, retreat directors and friends, families, supporters and volunteers.
At the conclusion of the evening, each guest was invited to take a Booklet of the life of St Mary Euphrasia Pelletier and a set of her quotes, a brochure and book mark of Good Shepherd Oasis.
We give thanks to our Creator-God for this afternoon mint-tea gathering at the Good Shepherd Place and for the on going benefits of “Quiet Journeys” where each can find stillness in chaos. May our beautiful God-created world fraught with experiences of conflict, struggles, non-peace and violence offer all, the courage to continually seek and strive for enduring love and unity found only in the Heart of our Loving Shepherd God and King in the sanctuary of Good Shepherd Oasis.
